Our Teachers

Paula Ellberg

Paula has been a lead teacher at Happy Hands for 23 years.  She and her husband, Dan, have two children.  Their son, Erik, daughter-in-law, Amie, and grandsons, Jayce and Tyler live in Princeton.  Their daughter, Emily, son-in-law, Nate, grandson, Kipton and granddaughter, Kambelle, also live in Princeton.  Paula received her degree in social work from the University of Iowa and her Early Childhood Certification from IVCC.  She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, reading, gardening, and animals (especially cats).  She is also an enthusiastic sports fan.  Especially the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Joyce Johnson

Joyce has been a part of Happy Hands for 32 years: 32 as a lead teacher and 30 as the Director.  She and her husband, Kent, live in Princeton and have two children.  Janine is married and lives in Farmington Hills, MI, with her husband, Chris, their daughter, Madeline, and son, Ryan.  Their son, Tim, is married and lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, Sarah, their son, Sawyer, and daughter, Hazel.  Joyce received her teaching degree at North Park University and previously taught in Glenview (Chicago suburb) and Wyanet.  Joyce loves music, playing piano and spending time with her family whenever possible.

Dawn Swanson

Dawn has been an assistant teacher at Happy Hands for a total of 12 years.  She and her husband, Ron, live in rural Princeton where they are both active in farming.  They have three daughters: Betsy and her husband, Mike, live in Princeton, Erika lives in FL, and Veronica lives in­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ Davenport, IA.  Dawn received her Associates Degree from Sauk Valley Community College and worked for 3 years at Walnut Grade School as a teacher’s aid before coming to Happy Hands.  Dawn enjoys time with her family, reading and the great outdoors.
