Youth & Young Adult Ministry
At ECC, teens and young adults are an integral part of our church family. It is our goal to have a youth ministry that combines events and programs aimed toward teenagers and college-aged youth with effective empowerment of parents and families to be the church at home. The world our youth live in can be a hard place, simply offering youth centered programming is not enough. We believe the faith development of young people is primarily the work of the whole family unit. It’s our goal to come along side families as they navigate the unique challenges and blessings of having a teenager, helping and empowering them to raise up a young follower of Christ.
YAYA (Youth & Young Adult) ministries have several different programs for junior high (6th through 8th grades), senior high and college-aged youth to achieve these goals:
Classes for both Junior and Senior High students meet immediately following our Sunday morning worship service, from 10:20-11:20 am (during the school year). Senior High meet on the first floor of the Annex (the house on the church’s block), and Junior High meet upstairs in the Annex.
Junior High Programs
Jr. High Youth Group: The Jr. High Youth Group doesn’t meet on a set schedule, rather we meet for specific events. Some of our students’ favorite things to do are overnights, trips to the pool, and service opportunities. While we meet we take time to discuss topics that pertain to the youth and how the Bible relates to their everyday lives.
Discipleship/Confirmation: Discipleship/Confirmation is a 2- year course for 7th and 8th graders that seeks to immerse students in the whole story of scripture, both Old and New Testaments. This is a Christian rite of passage that helps students find their identities in Christ and the narrative of Scripture before they head into high school. The purpose of these classes is to lead Jr. high students on a journey of personal discipleship with Christ, to teach them the core doctrines of the Christian faith, and to help them experience the love of God in a personal way. New classes for 7th graders begin in September of each year and take place on Wednesday nights at the church, from 6:15-7:30 pm. For more information or to register for classes, please contact Marianne in the church office: Marianne@ECCPrinceton.org or call 815-875-2124.
Cov Kids: (Meets every Wednesday Night, from 6:15-7:30 pm, for all 5th and 6th graders) Cov Kids is a Wednesday night program that is an extension of our children’s ministry. Cos Kids is a bridge program that seeks to “bridge the gap” between the children’s ministry and youth and tough adult ministries. Students in grades 5 and 6 who are not old enough for Confirmation, and yet, too old for the standard Children’s activities, are invited to come and enjoy this time of games, teaching, and fellowship specifically for them.
Senior High Programs
Sr. High Youth Group: The Sr. High Youth Group meets Sunday nights from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Annex (the house on the church’s block). We gather together for fellowship, learning, games, service projects, and to participate in many other activities throughout the year, including a Winter Retreat to Covenant Point Bible Camp and yearly Mission Trips during the summer (non-CHIC years).
CHIC: CHIC is an intensive weeklong event that stands for “Covenant High In Christ.” It is designed and hosted every three years by the Covenant denomination down at the University of Tennessee. CHIC is an awesome, intense week of spiritual formation. It is the highlight of many of our students’ high school youth group experience. Years without a CHIC we will typically go on a Mission Trip.
